Fructose free for 2 weeks...can we do it?

So you're fructose intolerant...the dietician will give you a packet that contains your new way of eating. The "I can't have" and the "I can have" diet. For 2 weeks you have to (or are supposed to) live fructose free.

And no- not just HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP- you will hear all your friends and family tell you about the dangers of hfcs- all the bad things this chemical does to belly's and people with ADD- but you or your child is FRUCTOSE INTOLERANT- more than just candy, more than eliminating fruit chews and roll-ups. They all mean well, but man is fructose in a lot more foods than candy!

list of foods allowed (from the Cleveland Clinic)

Dextrose,  Kool-Aid made with cane sugar,  sucrose or cane sugar,
eggs, beef, fish, poultry, deli meats (but not honey sweetened ones)
sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, tofu
Cheerios, Aunt Jemima pancake mix, fiber one, lucky charms, Eggo buttermilk pancakes
Alpha-bits, Bran Fakes by Post, Shredded WHeat
Egg noodles
wheat pastas
white flour
cheese, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers

As far as crackers, desserts, breads- always read the label!!!! Always. You'd be so surprised as to what has fructose, like wheat bread & hamburger buns. Ben & Jerry has some ice-cream that is fructose free- just read that label!

No more carrots, watermelon, no more honey hut icecream- always read the label!!!

So the "I can't have that!!" list is a lot longer than the "this is what I can eat" list but it is doable.

Yes you'll be making home-made frosting, home-made popsicles- but it's healthier anyway.
Knowing I'm helping Nathan feel better and gain weight is worth it!
If you're starting the "wow everything has fructose"  journey you're not alone. Good luck!! There are a lot of sites out there with "lists". Check with your doctor though- your dietician- you'd be surprised what naturally has fructose in it and what doesn't! Always check with your doctor first :)  If you have a fructose free recipe I'd love to see it!
